I recently made this beautiful VW Classic soft-top beetle cushion for a customer who's friend was moving back to the UK from here in Toulouse. The car colours are those of her car, down to the cream soft-top, recreated here in felt.

New Embroidery Hoops for Spring 2014
So pleased with this new range of embroidery hoops. I've been wanting to make these for ages and a Spring Craft fair coming up seemed the perfect place to showcase them! Available in 11cm, 16cm and 23cm hoop size. Made from linen fabric and freehand machine embroidered/hand embroidered with little flower details.

Easter Bunnies!!
These cute Easter Bunnies are part of our new Spring range for 2014.
The bunnies measure 9 cm wide x 16cm high (excluding ears!) are gently padded and have a gorgeous bright spring flower patterned fabric to the inside of the ears. A hand embroidered nose and felt eyes to the face with a cute little fluffy bunny tail the the reverse!
Perfect Easter decoration idea and can sit on the side all year round.

New Single Bunting range
We've been beavering away here on a few new lines which will be on show at a craft fair this weekend. I'm excited about these cute single flag bunting, which feature a range of designs and of course (as with all our products) are completely customizable.

I've mentioned this on my Facebook page before but I do love it when a customer starts an email with the words "Is it possible for you to make..."
This one was a fantastic commission to make a R2D2 glasses case for a Star Wars fan!
I thought I would share today what happens when special requests come in and how one of our products is made. Here goes;
I sketch out my designs using black fiber tip pens on white paper. This is so I can use the sketches to trace elements onto interfacing to make cutting out easier. This is especially important on detailed commissions such as some of our fabric storage baskets.
I don't use fancy gimmicks, I just stick the designs to the studio patio door glass and use the sunlight as a ready made lightbox.
Once drawn, traced, ironed and cut the pieces are pinned and sewn.

I like to run a zig-zag stitch where I can around pieces before I begin the process of the finer freehand machine applique as it offers a stronger finished article. Once the pattern pieces are in place the freehand embroidery begins, i love this bit :-)
I'm a bit of a stickler for neatness, and normally no-one but me gets to see this bit, but I tie off all the loose ends inside. Not only does this prevent the stitches fraying but it also gives more strength to the designs. You'll never know this is done as 9 times out of 10 it'll be hidden on the inside of your item but rest assured, I've knotted everything - it's an obsession.
All our products proudly display their Made in France tags. Our bespoke labels feature La Petite Maison Blanc to one side and our tagline on the other.
The inside of this glasses case is a black fabric with white spots, a bit of a departure from our normal neutral schemes but I think it coordinates more with the R2D2 on the face.
So here you go, the finished article. I hope this gives an insight into our design process and how our products are made.

This is me and my gorgeous boy Merlin taken a few weeks ago on the beach at the Mediterranean. Dogs aren't normally allowed on the beaches but out of season on a blowy Sunday afternoon we can sneak on for a play in the surf and a dig in the sand.
I'm starting this blog (rather late into my business and I guess for the most part my life) to share a little of what it is like to have four children, two dogs, a long suffering husband and to be living in a country other than the one you were raised in.
I'm English, born in the Midlands and lived there until 2011 when my husband had the chance of a secondment to the South West of France and the city of Toulouse. We jumped at the chance so up-sticks and off we went...
To move here I gave up a business I had started in 2008 which was selling cloth (washable) nappies. The French you see are not as open to the idea as the British and distance selling was not something I wanted to do as much of my work was face-to-face advise and demonstrations. I had a lot of time on my hands and so I started fiddling around with a few mediums; jewelry, wood, paint and finally I started sewing.
La Petite Maison Blanc was born in the Spring of 2012.
